CANCELED: “Whale of a Day” Celebration
This annual event will return Saturday, April 10, 2021. Stay Tuned! Visit the Museum's booth during the annual "Whale of a Day" Celebration at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. CANCELED: Drum Barracks Civil War Technology Fair
This year's Tech Fair has been canceled due to COVID-19. You will be amazed at the science and technology of the 19th century! Wet-plate photography, the telegraph, iron clad ships and submarines are just some of the innovations you can explore at the Drum Barracks Civil War Technology Fair. POSTPONED Exhibit Opening: “Wilmington Transportation Company”
Details on the rescheduling of this event will be shared as soon as possible. A new exhibit presented by the Los Angeles Maritime Museum chronicling the early years of the Wilmington Transportation Company. Founded by the Banning Brothers in 1884, “WT” operated in the port of Los Angeles for over a century, carrying passengers and cargo between Wilmington and Catalina Island. POSTPONED: Presentation by Olaf Engvig Author of “The Ships That Built the West”
This event will be rescheduled for a future date. Maritime historian, boat builder, author and sailor Olaf Engvig introduces the history of the “Scandinavian Navy”, its impact on the U.S. lumber trade, and his 30-year fight against vandals and bureaucracy to save one of the last lumber schooners. Whale Fiesta (CANCELLED)
--CANCELLED-- The Maritime Museum staff and volunteers will be on site to help celebrate the migration of the Pacific gray whale and the beginning of whale watching season.
