This year's Tech Fair has been canceled due to COVID-19. You will be amazed at the science and technology of the 19th century!  Wet-plate photography, the telegraph, iron clad ships and submarines are just some of the innovations you can explore at the Drum Barracks Civil War Technology Fair.  The Maritime Museum will be offering displays and information about maritime technology during the Civil War Era.

A new exhibit presented by the Los Angeles Maritime Museum chronicling the early years of the Wilmington Transportation Company. Founded by the Banning Brothers in 1884, “WT” operated in the port of Los Angeles for over a century, carrying passengers and cargo between Wilmington and Catalina Island.  Learn how the Banning family popularized Catalina as a vacation destination and how a devastating fire helped bring about the sale of the company to William Wrigley.  Admission is free.

Fleet Week is the annual celebration of our nation’s Sea Services. Held over Labor Day weekend, Fleet week includes tours of active duty military ships, demonstrations, live entertainment, and a STEM expo.  The L.A. Maritime Museum is proud to participate in the STEM expo located inside the cruise terminal.  Join us for hands-on stem activities, and learn about the Museum’s work during construction as well as upcoming events.  8:30am – 4pm each day

Maritime historian, boat builder, author and sailor Olaf Engvig introduces the history of the “Scandinavian Navy”, its impact on the U.S. lumber trade, and his 30-year fight against vandals and bureaucracy to save one of the last lumber schooners. Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum with grant funding from the office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn. Engvig's book may be purchased at engvig.com.

Los Angeles Harbor is home to two lighthouses: the Point Fermin Lighthouse and the Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse (known as Angels Gate Light). Join Kristen Heather, Director of the Point Fermin Lighthouse Museum and Marifrances Trivelli, Director of the Los Angeles Maritime as they take us on a surprising journey through the two very different histories of these neighboring lights.
