Thank you for your interest in donating artifacts and / or library materials to the Los Angles Maritime Museum. The museum’s collections and exhibits focus upon the history of the Port of Los Angeles. In order to be consistent with this focus, and due to constraints in storage and available display spaces, we will only consider accepting items that pertain to the history of the Port of Los Angeles. As an example, while vessels such as the HMS VICTORY are important in maritime history, they are not historically associated with the Port of Los Angeles. Therefore we would be unable to accept a ship model of HMS VICTORY.
When the museum accepts an artifact, it does so with the intention to store and care for that item in perpetuity. In addition to determining an artifact’s relevance to the museum’s focus, we must take into account the costs of long-term storage preservation and display. For all of these reasons, we are unable to accept everything offered to the museum.
If you believe your artifact(s) will be appropriate for the museum’s collection please fill out this form. The Collections Committee is unable to consider potential donations without a completed form.
