Immediately after launching, California Shipbuilding Corporation, Liberty Ship 200, S.S. BILLY MITCHELL undergoes a sea trial.
Explanation of Details:
During sea trials, the ship proves its seaworthiness, strength and speed. Sea trials are sometimes performed on the hull only, without decks and equipment, but in this case the ship was almost complete. Upon passing sea trials, ships are placed back in drydock to receive fitting out———the process of adding machinery and gear to complete the ship's complement of equipment.
