California Shipbuilding Corporation's last ship, S.S. COUNCIL BLUFFS VICTORY, launched September 27, 1945. S.S. COUNCIL BLUFFS VICTORY experienced a relatively long history extending into the Vietnam War and was scrapped in Suisun Bay, California, in 1994.
Explanation of Details:
The city of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was known as the grain storage capital of the Mid—West and the anchor hub for pioneers travelling west in the mid—1800s. It was also the city at which Mormon faithful gathered prior to seeking their western home in Utah.
