Explanation of Details:
Charles Lummis, 1859—1928, made the journey to Los Angeles by foot from Cincinnati, Ohio, writing about the experience in his book, "A Tramp Across the Continent", which was published in 1892. He figured prominently in Southern California culture. California Shipbuilding Corporation's publication, CalShipLog, on May 15, 1943, states that he was "... probably best known as an early editor of the Los Angeles Times and the founder of the Southwest Museum".
