Cedric Wilford Windas Collection

The maritime-themed illustrations of Cedric Windas were seen regularly in magazine articles during the World War II era. He wrote a column for "Our Navy" (a monthly magazine published from 1939-1946) explaining terms used by sailors and officers in their special language of life on the sea.

Windas also built model ships and documented his work in a large scrapbook which he constructed himself. He repainted book covers adding his unique style to titles and images of the mostly golden age of sail on books in his personal library.

The Windas Collection at the Los Angeles Maritime Museumcan be viewed by making an appointment in advance.
