Ferry boats carried people across bodies of water, usually between coastal cities and islands. There are several types of ferries, including Hydrofoil, pontoon, and cable ferries. This ferry was designed in the 1930s by an airplane engineer, and was operated on Puget Sound from 1935 to 1967. After that Kalakala endured various roles in Alaska and Washington until her final days, and was scrapped in January 2015 in Tacoma, Washington.
