Collection Description:
Formerly the SS France, the SS Norway was a French ocean liner built in 1957. It was sold to the Norwegian Cruise Line and renamed in 1979. The Norway sailed as a cruise ship until it was decommissioned in 2004.
Description of Photograph:
The Norway had an overall length of 1,035 ft and and maximum speed of 25 knots. It carried a crew of 900 and over 2000 guests.
Background Information:
Similar to ocean liners, cruise ships carry passengers over long distances. However, cruise ships are designed to offer more than just transportation. Today, these huge ships offer many forms of recreation, including theaters, pools, restraunts, and even golf courses and rock climbing walls.
