When you volunteer at the Maritime Museum, you share your enthusiasm and knowledge with visitors of all ages!
Depending on the time of year, we occasionally are in need of additional tour guides, gift shop clerks, front desk greeters, and tug engineers. Hours are flexible.
Please note that, per the City of Los Angeles, all prospective volunteers must undergo fingerprinting and background checks prior to volunteering.
Tour guides are responsible for leading groups of school children and adults through the Museum. All training will be provided. Guides must be comfortable speaking in public and interacting with visitors of all ages and abilities.
Clerks in the Sea Chest Gift shop assist customers with selecting merchandise and are responsible for the cash register and answering general questions about the shop and Museum.
The front desk greeter is the first point of contact for our visitors. The greeters welcome visitors to the museum, and answer general questions about the Museum and the San Pedro area. A cheerful demeanor and excellent customer service skills are required.
The tug ANGELS GATE is seeking experienced crew members who have hands-on mechanical experience with diesel engines. Tug captains must possess a current USCG license – master of tow. Per the US Coast Guard, all tug volunteers must undergo mandatory drug testing in addition to the background checks.
