The Los Angeles Museum Research Library is a special collection of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum. Books and archival materials donated to the Library were once owned by mariners, port pilots, sailors, ship modelers, authors and avid collectors of history and technology of the maritime industries. Our newer collections are supported by the Los Angeles Maritime Museum Foundation.

The Los Angeles Museum Research Library welcomes you! View our collections on this web site: you can inspect a selection of books, pamphlets, periodicals, blueprints, charts and archival and manuscript collections. You can also access the Library blog, “Adventures in Maritime History”, posted for your reading pleasure, showing details and images from books and collections.

Or you can make an appointment to see the collections in the Library, and check the hours here. As a Member of the Museum, you may borrow books for up to three weeks. Here’s a special link to what’s new on the Library shelves. More information on our books can be found online at LibraryThing.com where you can view a selection of books from our collections.

Visit the Library from Tuesday through Friday. Please call the Library at 310-548-7618 ext. 215 between 10am to 5pm.

The Library serves the staff of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and its Foundation, the San Pedro community, Museum members, maritime history scholars, and members of the public who share an interest in maritime history.
