The ANGELS GATE is the museum's resident tugboat. Although she joined our fleet in 1992, she has been a part of the Los Angeles Harbor scene since the 1940s when, as L.A.H.D. #10, she towed derrick barges and harbor pilots around the port.

Built in 1944 for the Army Transportation Service, she was originally known as ST (small tug) 695, and was among the fleet of tugboats designed for the European theater.

Today, she is a familiar sight in Los Angeles Harbor, sailing on the second Thursday of every month. Other than the removal of her machine guns and military hardware ANGELS GATE appears much as she did when first launched. ANGELS GATE is maintained and operated by "The Tug Boyz", an all-volunteer group meeting every Wednesday morning. To become a member, contact the museum at 310-548-7618.
