Motion picture audiences have always been fascinated by submarines. With most civilians never having the chance to spend time aboard a working submarine, life in the "silent service" is a constant source of curiosity. Hollywood studios historically have relied on the United States Navy to provide authentic settings, equipment, and storylines to make their films more realistic. The Navy in turn lends support to films that portray the submarine service in a positive manner, or will sometimes refuse assistance when it disapproves of a script.

Visit the Los Angeles Maritime Museum’s newest exhibit, "Submarines and Silver Screens" and see eight decades of original movie posters and film clips alongside the uniforms and personal items used by real-life members of the submarine service!

The Exhibit will run through January 27, 2002
