Los Angeles Maritime Museum Research Library Collection 30
This collection of documents, photographic prints and ship’s lines was created by Emil Aarup at his own business in Los Angeles between 1900 and 1940, and his work as a boatbuilder for Fellows and Stewart, Inc.
The collection contains two series: the Emil Aarup family photographs and boatbuilding and yachting photographic prints form the first series of this collection from 1900 to the 1940s. Fifteen sheets of lines for small craft (25′-50′), mostly drafted by Mr. Aarup, form the second series of the collection.
Emil Aarup worked closely with Fellows and Stewart, Inc. in the early part of the twentieth century. There is some overlap of photographic prints with the Papers of Fellows and Stewart, Inc.
Emil Aarup, boat builder and naval architect, was born in Denmark on Oct 18, 1878 and died in Los Angeles, Oct 22, 1940. After working for many years with Fellows and Stewart Boat Building Co., he opened his own boat building business in Los Angeles building yachts for Southern California yachtsmen.
