Cedric Windas created illustrations, documents, and hand-illuminated book-covers over the course of his career between 1939 and 1966.

Description: Collection of books decorated by Windas, his original pen and ink illustrations published in the 1930s and 1940s, a scrapbook created from found materials.

Biographical Notes:
Cedric Windas was an illustrator known between the World Wars and after for his portrayal of Navy life and customs. His original gouache paintings are affixed to books by means of transparent sticky tape. He created a large scrapbook and its cover, completed in 1957. His drawings for a book published under the title, “Traditions of the Navy”, are featured in this collection, which can also be viewed in issues of the magazine “Our Navy”, 1939-1946, held in our periodical collection. “Traditions of the Navy” is essentially an illustrated dictionary of terms used by sailors and English-speaking people in everyday speech.
