The Library’s Special Collections is an open collection consisting of items from the Research Library and Archives on general maritime and Port of Los Angeles geographic and oceanic data selected for easy access and for referencing specific information.

There are four parts to this collection. Each part is described in detail separately. The parts are: Reference Books and Training Manuals, News clippings, Maps and charts, and Pamphlets and ephemera on small craft and recreational boating.

Formats for Maps and charts include navigational charts, pilot charts, maps and atlases, etc. that were published and printed for sale and have been collected for their research and reference value.
